C’mon People, What Do You Really Want to Know?

whatI’ve been having a hard time thinking of what to write for the blog. I keep thinking that I need to have topics that people will care about, but at the same time I wanted the blog to be personal, mostly about myself and my work. I’ll probably end up with a bit of both, but I figured for now I could pick the brains of anyone who happens to be reading this blog, and see if y’all can give me some fuel for future posts.

So the question is, what would you like to know about me? If I’m going to write about myself (which I suck at) here on the blog, I may as well write what the readers want to know. here are some things to get you started, but feel free to come up with anything you can think of. Even if it’s weird, possibly offensive or totally off the wall. Throw it at me. I’ll give some sort of response.

  • What would you like to know about me personally? (Where I grew up, my childhood, hobbies, anything like that.)
  • Would you be interested in knowing about my creative background, work habits, inspirations, etc.? What exactly would you like to know?
  • What would you like to know some background on the books I’ve written?
  • What would you like to know about the art I’ve done? (My inspiration, techniques, etc.?)
  • What other things do you think I should talk about on the blog?

Post your questions and ideas in the comments. If I only have a short answer, I’ll just respond, if it’s something I can do a whole post on, I will. If there are enough questions, I might make a Q & A post.

Overall, I think I need to do what I intended to do when the blog was redesigned: ignore the fucking rules. Some people say personal blogs are great, some say you need to talk about what people want to read and make it nichy, never being personal. I really just want to write whatever and put it out there. I’d like people to get to know me and maybe make some virtual friendships through the blog. I think that would be cool. All the social networks seem to be going down the tubes, so a blog seems like a great place to talk and get to know people while letting them get to know me.

I hope that enough people read this to give me some good questions and suggestions. If not, well, the post will still be out there and people can respond to it at any time in the future. I still believe that if I can get my shit together and be consistent in some form this blog can really take off and be something awesome. I’m going to hold to that idea. I just need to find a direction and stick with it.

  1. You covered some of my favorite things to know about people, especially artists, in your bullet points (creative background, techniques, how you get ideas for your books, how and why did you start making jewelry, inspiration, etc), but I’ll throw this question out there because it intrigues me and I think you’ll have an interesting time with the answer: What terrifies you the most about your own work? It can be your art, writing, jewelry or any of your creative outlets.

    1. What terrifies me most? I’m not sure I understand the question. I’ve stopped worrying about whether people will like my work or not, that used to be a big fear. The only other thing I can think of is the fear that I’ll lose my talent and inspiration because I often have to spend more time on grunt work than I do on creativity. You know, that “use it or lose it” thing.

      1. That answered the question. I’ve been thinking a lot lately about “fear of success”, which I think is where the question came from. I’ve been told that’s my own fear by others, but I don’t think it’s true. So I’m still trying to sort out the answer for myself too. Good to know you overcame the fear of whether people will like your work – I think that creates a freedom some artists never reach. Thanks for answering. 🙂

        1. I do think some people fear success. Especially when they struggle for a long time, then they have no idea what they’d do if they finally made it, and it scares them. Some spiritual teachers say that the fear of success can actually keep you from achieving it. You’ll subconsciously sabotage your own future until you’re comfortable with the idea of actually being successful.

          1. Briana, This made think of one of my favorite quotes and I thought you might appreciate it

            “Our deepest
fear is not that we are inadequate. Our deepest fear is that we are
powerful beyond measure. It is our Light, not our Darkness, that most
            frightens us.”

            Marianne Williamson
Good luck with your blog and your goals for the year. I can relate oh too well to most of them. I’ll feature some of your products on my blog and maybe that will lead a few new fans to you.

          2. I love that quote, thank you. And thank you for the promotion. Every little bit is greatly appreciated.

As for my goals, some of them keep shifting, but I keep moving forward and I know if I persevere, great things are just over the horizon.

  2. Personally, I am curious about your Doctorate in Metaphysics. Beyond that, you are one of those people who has views on everything because you think deeply about life. It doesn’t matter the subject. How YOU view it will be the point of attraction. Subjects are limitless. Read ANYTHING and you’ll have a worthwhile opinion to share.

    1. What do you want to know about the Doctorate?
To be honest, I got it because I thought that having some letters around my name would make people take me more seriously. I don’t think it really changed much, but I’m actually glad to have it. It’s a subject I was learning about on my own, so having guided lessons just helped me dive more deeply into it. I enjoyed the work and what I learned, and I still study on my own now.
