Writing on the Shower Walls

Remember that post where I said you need to keep paper with you at all times for taking notes? Well, sometimes there are times and places where paper isn’t an option. I’ve joked about it before, but I really do write on the shower walls. I don’t know what it is about shower time that sets my creativity loose, but I sometimes cover the walls when I’m in there.

The bathroom is one of those places where paper really doesn’t work. you’d have to rinse off, dry off, get paper and pen, all while holding the idea in your head. A grease pencil is a whole lot easier. If you’re creative or get ideas at odd times, I highly recommend getting one or two of them and keep them in the bathroom.

The first time inspiration hit me in the shower, I had to reach for lipstick. That was messy. It smears and is hard to write with, and even harder to get off afterward. After that I thought an old eyeliner pencil would be a good idea. Not so much. That was even harder to get off the walls than the lipstick. Finally, after telling someone about what was happening, they suggested a grease pencil, sometimes known as a Chinese crayon. Those are awesome, and now I keep one on the side of the tub at all times.

I use the grease pencil to write on the shower walls, or the mirror if I’m closer to that. I’m really glad that we have a plastic shower liner, I have no idea what I’d do if t was stone tile like in the other bathroom. One other thing worth noting, Noxzema is awesome for cleaning off grease pencil. It doesn’t scratch the surface, leaves a pleasant scent and has no nasty chemicals. It also rinses off nicely.

I suppose if you don’t have the kind of shower walls you can write on or a large enough mirror, you might want to have a dry erase board in the bathroom. You can use grease pencil on those too, and you won’t have to worry about the moisture making the dry erase marker run.

I’ve written on all sorts of things when I didn’t have paper. Napkins, the blank pages in the back of a book, on the linoleum, even on myself. What kind of things have you had to take notes on in a pinch? What’s the oddest thing you’ve ever used to write with?
