I Learned To Make Egg in a Basket From V For Vendetta

Have you ever heard of “egg in a basket” Until I watched V For Vendetta, I never had. But now I know what they are, and how to make them.

I suppose it may seem odd to have learned how to make any sort of food from a movie, but I did. I saw one character serve it to another in the movie, and it looked so good, I tried it that very night. Egg in a basket is just an egg cooked into a piece of bread. I don’t know if I’ve been doing it the “right” way, but I made up a method that works very well.

First I take two pieces of bread and put margarine on both sides, lightly. Then I take a drinking glass and use it to cut a hole in the center of each piece. I put the pieces of bread, including the cut-out pieces, into a frying pan. I then crack an egg into the hole in each slice.

Fry the egg until it’s solid enough to flip over. It can be tricky, but I got the hang of not spilling the egg out when I flipped it. Then you keep frying until the egg is as done as you like. That’s all there is to it! Like I said, it’s a little tricky to flip, but you’ll get the hang of it.

I love the way these taste. I’m not sure why, but I like it better than any other kind of fried egg. Unlike the top photo though, I don’t put ketchup on it. I have a feeling they got the idea the same place I did, considering that’s a V on the bread. The bottom image is a photo after I made some at home. Maybe I’m not the only oddball who can learn how to cook from watching a non-cooking related movie.
