We all hope that our relationships will be wonderful and long-term, but sometimes it doesn’t work out that way. Read these to learn the signs of a relationship in trouble, so you can try to work things out before it’s too late.

You fight more than you talk. If your relationship has become more battles than banter, you might want to sit down and have a long talk with your partner. Occasional spats are normal, but constant arguing and fighting is a very bad sign.

You’d rather be apart than together. If you’re not enjoying one another’s company, it may be time to have a talk about why, or it may be time to call it quits. See if you can figure out the source of the issue, and decide if it can be fixed or not.

You don’t do the little things anymore. When people are happy in their relationship, they often do kind little things like fetch each other coffee, bring flowers, and give back rubs. If the sweet little gestures have stopped, you might want to talk about why you don’t feel inclined to do them anymore.

The spark has gone out. A good relationship is a balance of physical and emotional connections. The “wow” factor of physical relations may taper over time, but if there’s no spark at all in the bedroom, it can be a sign of a greater problem.

One of you has a wandering eye. If you’re bored or unhappy in your relationship, you might start looking at other people, hoping to find what’s missing. If you see this happening, it’s better to talk with your partner and see if you can repair the failing aspect, before cheating happens.

One of you has cheated. This is a hard thing for a couple to recover from, as it breaks the trust that is crucial to a good relationship. However, it may be possible to talk it over, and find out why it happened, and how to ensure it doesn’t happen again.

You don’t talk anymore. Constant open communication is absolutely key to a lasting relationship. If you hold everything in, it’s going to lead to disaster. You should talk with your partner often, and address problems as soon as they appear. Be sure you stay calm, try to be positive, and get things worked out while they’re still small issues. You will learn a lot about each other, and save a lot of heartaches and misunderstandings later down the road.
