I just saw a commercial for some mega-brand’s “nude” foundation. It’s not the first commercial I’ve seen for nude-look makeup. I’ve even seen tutorials online for how to get the “trendy” nude look. The idea is that you put a ton of makeup on your face so that you look like you’re not wearing any makeup. Yes folks, that’s apparently a thing.
Am I the only one who thinks that’s completely insane? Why on earth would a woman cover her face in multiple layers of expensive chemical concoctions just so she can look like she’s not wearing anything at all? No, I get it. None of us is good enough the way we’re born, so we have to use the makeup to cover our “flaws” so that we can look “perfect”. Even if we’re trying to obtain a natural look, we need to obtain it in a totally unnatural way.
Now, don’t get me wrong, I’m not one of those women who hates makeup. I like it sometimes and have found a wonderful knock-off brand mineral makeup that’s just as good as the expensive brand, and I do wear it. However, I’m learning to be more and more comfortable going out with nothing on my face but what nature gave me, and I think every woman should be confident enough to do the same.
My advice for the ladies out there wanting that “perfect” nude look? Eat well, exercise, get some sleep, stay hydrated and take care of your skin. Keep it natural. I use homemade sugar scrub, natural shea soap, organic shea coconut lotion and vitamin E. That’s it! People usually peg me at about 8-10 years younger than I really am. I guess I must be doing something right.
And if you have “flaws”, realize that they’re probably not flaws at all. The media is insane and wants your money and to keep you in a perpetual state of low-self esteem. Break the cycle. You’re probably just as beautiful bare-faced, if not more so, than you are covered in cosmetics. Wash it off, and go out proudly with the face that nature gave you. I can tell you from experience that going out in public makeup-free can be very liberating. It’s wonderful to feel pretty with nothing on your face but a smile.
